Pingus D.O. Ribera del Duero 2013

Deep ruby red. Subtle aromas of red berries as well as floral and earthy-smoked notes. Immensely concentrated on the palate with a freshness, lightness and elegance as only achieved by Peter Sisseck. Another master piece from the Dominio de Pingus! Vinified in 2000 litre tuns, subsequently aged in 2-year-old French barrels for 20 to 22 months. 6900 bottles are filled both unfiltered and authentic.

In 1995, the Dane, Peter Sisseck, vinified his first own wine from grapes of the highest quality in his newly founded bodega in the Ribera del Duero. The small project flourished under the influence of the garage wine trend of the 1990s. And this fine drop, named after Peter’s Danish nickname, made history. Pingus was the first Spanish wine cultivation which made it into the world list of the 100 best wines.

Yet it all became just a myth when the ship, bringing the bottles of the first vintage to the American market, sank. This loss and already limited production quantity made Pingus one of the most sought-after wines in the world. And at the time, the most expensive of Spain. Sisseck cultivates his 4 ha Pingus vineyard bio-dynamically, ferments in large wood and steel and during ageing entirely forgoes new oak. Year on year the great complexity and impressionable finesse constitute this world-famous wine.
