Clos Valmaña Tinto 2014 - red

The wonderful vineyard "Clos d'Agon" at which the Clos Valmaña is produced, is situated nearby to Girona, however outside of the classic DO zone of the Spanish wine law. Thus all the wines are only permitted to carry the generic DO Catalonia but this does not impair their quality in any way, shape or form. The Bodega, with approx. 15ha of vines, can be found in the heart of the Les Gavarres National Park in the Costa Brava at 100m above sea level. The 6 red grape varieties (Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot) are picked separately and cultivated under the management of the iconic oenologist, Peter Sisseck*.

Of the batches for which a purpose has not yet been determined after the complex assemblage of the five grape varieties for the Clos d'Agon, there is a second attempt for the Clos Valmaña. It is therefore not technically a second wine as the quality of the source material is the same as in the Clos d'Agon. The Clos Valmaña exhibits an intense, cherry-red colour. It presents black forest fruits with a light toasty note and floral nuances on the nose. It creates an intense, yet floral fruity aroma on the palate. The Falstaff magazine distinguished the Clos Valmaña with 92 points!

  • Origin: Catalonia, Spain
  • Year: 2014 (year subject to change)
  • Grape Variety: Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot
  • Recommendation: Drink with all hearty meals - above all beef
  • Red wine; bottle of 75 cl

* Peter Sisseck is the oenologist responsible for Hacienda Monasterio and the owner of the world-renowned vineyard, Pingus, both in Spain. After which the final assemblages are made every year: first for Clos d'Agon and then for Clos Valmaña. The rest is bottled for locally sold second wines.
