Quercegobbe IGT 2015 - red

Tenuta Petra owns an avant-garde wine cellar planned and built by the Swiss architect, Mario Botta, which is why all gazes from visitors to the wine terrace at the Costa degli Etrucsi are drawn to it. This vineyard (olive orchard, forests and vines), with approx. 300ha, is in the Val di Cornia in southern Tuscany at the border to Maremma where many large wines grow, such as Sassicaia, Solaia, Masseto, etc.

The Quercegobbe is a red Merlot. It grows directly next to the wine cellar on a slope in the direction of the sea. This plot (with the name Quercegobbe) was newly planted in 1997. The somewhat cooler (due to its close proximity to the Mediterranean) and well aerated position is a huge advantage for the Merlot grape. The wine is thick with great aroma and with berry notes typical of a Merlot. It has the characteristic spices and fruits of a Maremma wine. Its style is opulent but the tannins are nice and lightly embedded.

  • Origin: Val di Cornia, Tuscany, Italy
  • Year: 2015 (year subject to change)
  • Maturity: 2018 - 2030
  • Grape Variety: 100% Merlot
  • Recommendation: Drink with terrine, pate, barbecue dishes, roasted duck or goose, dark meats, cheese
  • Red wine; bottle of 75 cl
